Dancers in the Munster Program participate in classes between two and four times a week, and classes are 90 minutes in length as dance complexity continues to increase. Students at this level have mastered the Leinster dance routines and are usually aged 8 and over. Dancers who are under age 8 who are in the Open Prizewinner level at competition may also be invited to join this class.
Complexity of dance material in this program continues to progress and students are introduced to the hornpipe and more complex traditional set dances. Students often choose to compete and participate in grade exams. Grade exams are held once or twice a year and all students will receive a certificate of achievement from an out of town adjudicator. Note that grade exam fees are billed separately from tuition. Students are also encouraged to practice at home, and are provided with digital media resources and tracking sheets to help them hone this skill.
This level is the first which introduces a physical fitness component to aid dancers general strength development which is essential to complete more complex movements. Our physical fitness program is designed by a certified personal trainer to ensure muscle groups can support high levels of dance safely, and to help with injury prevention. The program is always safe and age appropriate.
Uniform fees cover two school T-Shirts, a school journal, and three pairs of dance socks. Journals will be used to write out dance corrections, record home practice and to make other notes. Students are required to bring their journals to each class.
Class attire includes a school or Irish dance-themed shirt, black, blue or grey shorts or skort and white or black dance socks. Students must be fitted with appropriate footwear including both soft and hard shoes and clean indoor running shoes for the fitness component of class. Students at this level normally rent the advanced school costume, or when qualified are allowed to purchase a solo costume.
